When it comes to making your home look attractive, choosing the right interior doors makes a world of difference.  If there's a certain style that you are trying to achieve, interior doors are one of the things that can make a significant difference.

Choosing the right doors for your home goes beyond just style though.  You need to understand the construction of a door and what sets it apart from other interior doors.  Prices can vary widely and there are reasons for these price differences.  There are 3 different types of doors that are the most common and need to be explained so that the homeowner knows the difference and chooses the right door for their home.

Cafe Doors

Cafe doors might be most recognized through their use on western films.  These are the two swinging doors that you often see on saloons that are meant to portray saloons of the 1800's.  These doors are great for decoration and for rooms that don't need full doors.  They make perfect doors for restaurants or in homes where the owner is trying to make a unique setting, but when a full door is not needed.  Sometimes these doors are called saloon doors but another name for them is also swinging doors.  They tend to be bi-directional, meaning that the doors can swing two ways, rather than just one way like most other doors.

Pocket Doors

Just like the name suggests, these doors fit into a pocket in the way and when they are open, the door is not visible.  Pocket doors slide on a track and are great for small spaces where a full door would impede traffic.  When closed they blend in quite well, but when open, they are out of site and don't require any space to open and close.  When floor space is at a premium, pocket doors are perfect.

Solid Interior Doors

Solid interior doors look just like regular doors, but are made of solid wood.  Browse through any home improvement store and you will see a myriad of doors for sale at exceptionally low prices.  As soon as you pick them up, you know why they are so inexpensive; They're hollow.  While these may work for some spaces, when you want complete privacy in your home or office, purchase a solid interior door.  These are doors made of solid wood and they tend to be fairly heavy.  This weight helps to insulate the sound that may travel and if you're in an area where it's important to keep the sound inside the room, you will want a solid interior door.  Great for bedrooms, offices and restrooms, solid doors that are made of a beautiful wood can add a certain amount of character and class to your home as well.

For many, doors are an afterthought when it comes to home decor, but they shouldn't be.  They have the ability to give your home or office character and class and can really add to a certain style that you are trying to achieve in the space.
