Many people think a 14 gauge iron door is better than a 12 gauge iron door. It is not true; the lower the number is the thicker the door will be. Similarly, when you compare 14 gauge with 18 gauge, you will find 14 gauge to be thicker. It is so because 14 gauge comes with 180 mils and 18 gauge comes with 168 mils. So, there is a basic difference of thickness between one gauge iron and the other. If you are interested in getting something better try buying a door which is made of lower gauge iron. But, do keep in mind that it will be a bit heavier as compared to other, which is due to the thickness of material used.
