EXTERIOR FRENCH DOORS
Ever since their introduction in the 1920's in Europe and North America, exterior French doors helped usher in the style that defined the modern home.
They became a standard feature during the building boom that followed the Second World War because of their aesthetic simplicity-a key foundation of the modern architectural style. Exterior French doors also adhered to the principle of structural transparency by providing access to a patio, backyard, pool area, or upper balcony while making the interior room visually accessible from the outside.
Exterior French doors have since been a notable element in the construction of private residences, condominiums, apartments, and hotels. The concept of the two door panels swinging open or sliding along top-and-bottom horizontal tracks has stayed essentially the same. But the introduction of new materials and technology has made them more durable, easier to operate, and even more long lasting.

Standard Features and Benefits
- Blinds between the glass
JELD-WEN exterior French doors easily control sunlight with optional blinds installed between each glass. They have a special operating device that makes it easy to raise, tilt, or lower the blinds depending on your mood.
- Thermally-sealed Low-E glass panels filled with Argon
The "E" stands for "emissivity," or the amount of heat being allowed into or out of the room. JELD-WEN's Low-E Glass insulating panels with Argon increase energy efficiency by controlling the passage of heat. In warm weather, it reflects the sun's energy to keep the room cooler. In cold weather, it reflects back the heat to reduce heat loss and keep the room warmer. Thermal sealing of the glass panels also keep the interior furnishings from fading.
- AuraLast Wood
A JELD-WEN patio door's exclusive solid-pine AuraLast Wood material offers solid protection against water saturation, wood decay, and termite infestation. Unlike ordinary dip-treated wood which only provides superficial surface protection, AuraLast Wood's protective ingredients penetrate to the core and cannot be compromised even with sanding or trimming during installation. Depending on your taste, JELD-WEN AuraLast Wood can be clear coated to preserve its natural wood color. It is also available in beautiful stain finish.
- Pultruded fiberglass sill
Fiberglass is an excellent thermal barrier. The JELD-WEN patio door's pultruded fiberglass sill, combined with a wood interior trim and stainless steel roller track, provide optimum structural strength and water resistance. The sill's corner key construction ensures effective sealing and raises the wood above the water line to prevent water seepage. The concealed sill anchoring system also reduces bowing.
- Sweep System Seals
Maximum wind and water resistance is a key attribute of a JELD-WEN exterior French door. Equipped with sweep system seals, it is tightly secured against water absorption even with hurricane winds of up to 173 mph. That gives it a Design Pressure (DP) 50, the highest possible rating that can be given to an exterior French door.
- Extruded Aluminum Cladding with Integral Nail Fins
Exterior frame and panel surfaces are completely covered in aluminum cladding for over-all low maintenance. Cladding is available in either of six colors which include black, brilliant white, French vanilla, chestnut bronze, vanilla desert sand, and Hartford green.
- Heavy-duty and adjustable steel rollers
JELD-WEN exterior French doors glide smoothly with minimum effort, and they retain their structural integrity because they're mounted on solid steel ball bearing tandem rollers.
- Energy Star Qualification
All JELD-WEN exterior French doors bear the Energy Star symbol. It identifies them as energy efficient products in all weather conditions and eligible for an energy tax credit. JELD-WEN has even been named Energy Star 2010 Partner of the Year by the program administered by Natural Resources Canada to promote the highest levels of energy efficiency across a wide range of products.
4-9/16" jambs. An option for 1/16" jamb depth increments is also available.
They ensure that the JELD-WEN exterior French door will remain on its hinges even during a heavy storm packing tremendous wind pressure.
