The
Nantucket Collection from Simpson Doors combines two durable, weather-resistant
wood species with a modified mortise-and-tenon construction technique to
deliver the beauty of a natural wood door with long-lasting performance, no
matter what nature sends its way. Available in multiple designs, sizes and
panel options, the doors are manufactured using two-piece laminated stile-and-rail
construction (no veneers). Door components are assembled using a modified
mortise-and-tenon joinery technique featuring face-driven pins.
Nantucket
Collection doors are manufactured using black locust and Nootka cypress. Black
locust is one of the heaviest and hardest woods in North America, and has a
dramatic grain pattern that gives these doors a unique look. It’s strong and
highly rot resistant, even in extreme conditions, and is often used in tough
exterior applications such as fence posts, railroad ties and mine shafts. The
tenons and pins in all Nantucket doors are made with black locust, which
eliminates stile and rail separation and gives the doors an eye-catching, hand
crafted appearance. The rest of the door can be ordered in either black locust
or Nootka cypress. Nootka cypress is a durable wood with excellent dimensional
stability. Traditionally used for shingle siding and other exterior
applications, Nootka cypress offers a fine texture, uniform color and straight
grain that can also take stain or paint well for a beautiful finish.
Simpson
analyzed dozens of wood species and construction techniques to derive the
combination used in the new doors. Based on years of lab and field-testing and
proven performance, Simpson is offering the Nantucket
Collection with a 10-year warranty for exterior wood doors. The 10 year warranty on a wood door is unheard
of in the industry. Home owners now have
yet another option to consider and have peace of mind to have a warranty. The
exterior wood doors are available in 1 ¾- and 2 ¼-inch thicknesses, with 1
7/16-inch Inner bond double hip-raised or flat panels and either ovolo or
shaker sticking. All divided lite doors are constructed with ¾-inch insulating
glass and use 7/8-inch wide simulated divided lites. Design pressure ratings of
DP50 and matching jambs and brickmold are available.
