A review of different window manufacturers
Marvin, Pella ,Anderson, And last but not least JELD-WEN.
In the replacement window market today, there are a myriad of different window manufacturers that all claim to produce better windows than their competitors. While each one has it's good points and it's bad points, let's examine a few window manufacturers to see what they offer so that you can make an informed decision when purchasing new replacement windows.
Replacement Window Reviews
Pella Windows
One of the biggest names in the industry, they have been in business since 1925. They currently sell through a network of Pella franchises. Depending on the franchise, you may feel a little like you're buying a used car from a used car salesman, but this can vary depending on location. In terms of the quality of their windows, they are a very good window. Due to their high volume manufacturing process, you may find some manufacturing defects. For being one of the biggest names in the window business, I would hope that they could create a quality window, but you don't have to go far to find complaints. Pella windows do require much more prep work to be completed before they can be installed, which may increase your cost to install. Many Pella windows do come with a lifetime warranty but there have been many reports of problems in making warranty claims.
Marvin Windows
Marvin replacement windows are very good windows overall. Their windows are constructed very well and even after a few years, they still look good and work well. One of their most popular windows is their fiberglass Infinity series, which is a solid window that gets plenty of positive feedback. The come with a 10 year warranty against defects and 20 years on their glass.
Andersen Windows
Andersen windows should be avoided. Even though they claim to offer good quality products, they've been proven to be overpriced and of inferior quality over and over again. Their sales process is quite high pressure and slick, but when it comes to their product, they just don't compare to other windows which are available at a lower price. Warranties on Andersen windows include 20 years on the glass, but just 10 years on the other parts.
JELD-WEN Windows
JELD-WEN windows really are like a bright light on a dark day. Not only are they priced very competitively, but they are also built to last. Since 1960 this U.S based company has been building high quality windows and doors. The company is privately owned and truly cares about the products that they make, ensuring only the highest quality items leave the manufacturing facilities. Although the company is large and employs over 20,000 in it's various divisions, they have managed to hold onto full ownership of the company as a privately held company. Whether you choose their wood, vinyl or aluminum windows, you can be assured of a consistently high quality window. Their wood windows come with a 20 year warranty while their vinyl windows have an impressive lifetime warranty.
